Caroline French was born in England in 1808. She married Giles Farnham in England in 1829. They had a family of eight children. Baby Ruth died in 1830, aged one month.
Caroline, Giles and their remaining six children, Ruth, Cain, Abel, Harriett, Mary Ann and Eliza all arrived in Adelaide, SA in 1847. Another daughter Morella was born in 1849 at Cudlee Creek, SA.
The book records the lives of the Farnham family with detailed family history charts. The family were true pioneers in the suburbs they called home.
Also on the ship with Caroline and Giles Farnham in 1847 were Caroline’s elderly father James French and Caroline’s brother Henry French.
The book records the death of James French Snr at the age of 74 in 1850, the marriage of Henry French to Ellen Riordan in 1851, then the sudden death of Henry French Jnr at the age of 40 in 1859. Sadly, the death of Caroline Farnham at the age of 60 in 1868 left Ellen (the wife of Henry Snr) contemplating her life without close family nearby.
So, in 1869 she left Adelaide with her three remaining children, Michael, Mary Ellen and Henry, and travelled to Sydney NSW in search of her brother-in-law James Harris French.
One hundred and two photographs compliment the detailed research on the family.
